About the book
US universities or Japanese universities? Leave the decision too late, and some paths close.
The book covers two of the paths open to a child at a US local school: US universities, and the returnee admissions (帰国生入試) of Japanese universities. From how American high schools work to selection and timelines in both countries, it is written so that parents can check the facts for themselves. Rules and figures come from each university's admissions guidelines and the testing organizations' official pages, and the book says when each was checked.
Information as of October 2026 (admissions for 2027 entry, and the 2026–27 tests).
Written for
Parents of children who attend, or will attend, school in the US (upper elementary through high school). It is not written for families aiming at US universities from a Japanese high school or an international school, or at universities outside the US and Japan.
